Impact from the Magnify Tool Cohort Participants

Global Treehouse shares the successes for impact of the inaugural Magnify Tool cohort!

The Magnify Tool is a resource created with and for children’s palliative care providers to use their service data to make quality improvements. It’s customisable and available for free on this website by navigating to “Magnify” on this webpage or going to www.globaltreehouse.foundation/magnify.

We launched the Magnify Tool cohort to provide international children’s palliative care practitioners with a six-month experience to deepen their tool use, examine their data, and drive quality improvements. Each participating team worked through the tool alongside colleagues, leveraging their services’ strengths and context and identifying opportunities for better data use or collection. Teams also identified and implemented interventions and shared what they had learned across the cohort.

We’re proud of the commitment from all of the participating organisations:

Working alongside children’s palliative care providers in this cohort, to encourage, coach and motivate one another to use data for informed decision- making, better monitoring and high-quality care has been a critical part of the full circle of the Magnify Tool. We co-designed it with experts and are now using it to show that data can drive improvements in many aspects of children’s palliative care!
— Erin Das, Practice Lead, Global Treehouse

The participants' projects focused on a range of topics, including needs and feedback of children and families, holistic palliative care provision, service utilisation, operational efficiency, and staff wellbeing and capacity. A key aspect of the cohort was co-learning, as teams shared their experiences with the five steps for impact (you can view more on the Magnify Tool action guide). The cohort has also provided a platform for teams to motivate and support each other in using data effectively, while sharing insights with regional networks.

Teams chose various impactful projects: from analysing data from scheduling care episodes to advanced care planning usage, from systematically using staff wellbeing measures to understanding how to use data from tracking cancellations, to name a few. In May, participating organisations will share their full outcomes and plans.
